So your student athlete's football, hockey, baseball, soccer, field hockey and volleyball seasons are over. What now? How can your student-athlete improve for next season to meet personal goals and performance standards the team has set? What do you do after the stadium and gym lights go out to get better?

On Sat., April 16, 2016, athletes from grades 8 through 12 have the opportunity to train with former National Football League star Antwaan Randle El and Para-Olympics prospect Jason Sturm. Six scholarships will be provided.
Known as "After The Lights Go Out," the event was envisioned and is sponsored by MacJohn Sports and JTF-1, co-founded by the husband and wife team of Mike McCloskey and Ronda Johnson of Grantsville, MD. JTF-1 in turn was inspired by the Pittsburgh Steelers leadership values book Forged in Steel, co-authored by Tunch Ilkin and Damian W. Williams (Minerd.com Publishing, LLC).
"We want to make sure the most deserving student athletes in our local area get the opportunity to have a great experience with some great athletes," said McCloskey.
Randle El and Sturm will share their stories, experience, and strategies of winning and training with students in a one-day clinic at Northern Garrett County Middle School, 371 Pride Parkway, Accident MD. It will be a general sports clinic focused on power movements which will improve performance in any sport. The athletes will be taught proper exercise techniques to use at home during the off-season with little to no equipment. Additionally, participants will be provided a healthy lunch with a discussion on sports injuries and their effect on performance, as well as, a question-and-answer session with the Randle El and Sturm.
Randel El was a three-sport athlete at Indiana University, threw a touchdown pass to Hines Ward which helped the Pittsburgh Steelers win Super Bowl XL and now runs an inspirational organization for underprivileged youth, the El Foundation.
Sturm is an inspirational adaptive athlete following his dream of racing for the U.S. Olympic ParaBobsled Team. He is also a Pat Tillman Scholar and a CrossFit coach for adults and children.
Who Can Attend? If not from Western Maryland, this is a great opportunity to visit Garrett County. The clinic cost is $99 and is limited to 100 athletes. Registration and details on the event and local area are available at www.jtf1.com/atlgo.
Scholarships - To assist families in the local area JTF's parent company MacJohn Sports will provide six scholarships to local student athletes, with the winning names to be drawn in a contest. Contestants will include three male and three female student athletes in grades 8 to 12 from Allegany County and Garrett County, MD or nearby Somerset County, PA.
Nominations - With the deadline of April 3, 2016, you may nominate a friend, son, daughter, granddaughter, grandson, student, niece, nephew, neighbor, or yourself by submitting an essay of 500 words or less addressing why the nominated student athlete should attend the clinic.
